PAC applies a five-phase systems engineering approach to all of our renewable energy efforts. These phases are tied together via PAC Project Management. The level of effort for each phase is highly dependent upon customer needs and project size. In general, the systems engineering we apply to the renewable market consists of:

1. Feasibility, Analysis & Requirements

This stage allows us to get our arms around the project. All capabilities and requirements, including those for support infrastructure, are defined. Our analysis is independent of product. Outcomes of the feasibility study include:

• Sound approach with issues well defined and clearly communicated
• Identification, analysis and documentation of Requirements
• Research and analysis of infrastructure and interoperability requirements including compliance
• Development of requirements traceability
• Analysis of alternatives
• Cost, economic and business analysis

2. Planning & Design

PAC’s integrated worldwide team goes to work developing a suitable and effective design based on Phase 1 findings. Solutions may include solar, wind, or a hybrid system blending new and existing energy sources. All options, trade-offs, risks and costs are discussed with the customer.

3. Construction, Integration & Testing

This is the implementation phase. Our integrated approach includes a mix of engineering theory and practical applications based on real-world data collected from the customer’s site. Our knowledge of test methods and procedures are second to none.

4. Value Engineering

PAC’s systems engineering approach includes Value as a key element in all phases of the design process. It is singled out in the systems engineering process phase because we strive to ensure that the customer’s return on investment begins when PAC is selected for the project. 

5. Operation & Life Extension

An often-neglected part of design is operation and maintenance, or system sustainment. For PAC, that is factored in as part of our design.
